Invented in 1960, CPR is a simple but effective procedure for adults, children and infants that allow almost anyone to sustain life in the first critical minutes of cardiac arrest. CPR provides oxygenated blood to the brain and the heart long enough to keep vital organs alive until emergency assistance arrives. This course offers basic instruction and practice on how to properly administer CPR and First Aid. Two year Certification and re-certification is available for both CPR and First Aid.
Designed for emergency response teams, safety personnel, supervisors, individuals requiring certification and the general public, this courses teaches how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants; identifying and caring for bleeding, sudden illness and injury and preventing disease transmission. (4 hours) Competent Lifesaving Skills and Knowledge. Knowing appropriate action to take in an emergency until professional help arrives is critical in saving lives.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
A certified medication aide shall administer prescription medications only at the delegation of a nurse to residents in the home and residential care setting.
A certified medication aide, to whom the task of medication administration is delegated, may administer oral medications, topical medications, medications administered as nasal spray, or as drops, or ointment to a resident’s eye, ear, or nose; rectal and vaginal medications; or inhalants delivered by inhalers, nebulizers, or aerosols that allow for a single dose of a fixed, pre-measured amount of medication.
This series of courses are taught by trained Registered Nurses who teach Direct Support Professionals how to administer Oral, Eye, Ear, Topical, and Nasal Medications.
Medication Administration I
Demonstrates performance of 13 Health-Related activities and mediation preparation, administration, and documentation for each route of medication administration presented in the 14 hour course.
Medication Administration II
Provides training on how to administer and documentation, feedings, cleaning, and medication through G/J tubes presented in the 4 hour course.
Medication Administration III
teaches the signs, symptoms, and management of Diabetes, and administering, and documentation of subcutaneous Insulin injections presented in the 4 hour course
PREREQUISITES:
A 75 hour state course covering the Basic Skills relating to: Personal Care, Mental Health, Social Service, Basic Restorative, Services, Resident’s Rights, and Communication and Interpersonal Skills, and much more is covered in the course.
In order To receive a Certificate of Completion, it is necessary for the the student to pass the required exams with a score of 70% or greater which demonstrates proficiency in all skills taught in the course.
The student must also complete 16 hours of mandatory hands-on clinical in a long term care facility.
A Diploma or GED is required, and a potential candidate for the STNA course must be able to read and perform basic math skills. A Candidate must be at least 18 years old in order to begin training. Good physical health exam required, TB test, Vaccine consent, and a background check must be submitted before the first day of class.
The Nurse Aide is a crucial member of any care team. They are instrumental in providing patients with the needed basic / personal care, as well as providing genuine emotional and physical support during a patients time of need.
STNA Class – Any classroom appropriate clothing can be worn. CLINICAL – White scrub top. White scrub pants, and name badge. Appropriate undergarments must be worn that cannot be see through. Student must be clean, neat, and professional looking at all times.
** Any student not dressed appropriately will be sent home. (No exceptions).
· THE LENGTH OF THE PROGRAM REQUIRES 100% ATTENDANCE FOR COURSE COMPLETION.· CLINICALS CANNOT BE MADE UP UNTIL THERE IS SPACE AND AVAILABILITY IN THE NEXT SCHEDULED CLASS.· A STUDENT MORE THAN 15 MINUTES LATE FOR CLASS WILL BE COUNTED AS ABSENT AND THAT DAY MUST BE MADE UP.· IF LATE FOR CLINICAL, STUDENTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ON THE FACILITY FLOOR. NO EXCEPTIONS NEED TO RECSHEDULE
