A certified medication aide shall administer prescription medications only at the delegation of a nurse to residents in the home and residential care setting. A certified medication aide, to whom the task of medication administration is delegated, may administer oral medications, topical medications, medications administered as nasal spray, or as drops, or ointment to a resident’s eye, ear, or nose; rectal and vaginal medications; or inhalants delivered by inhalers, nebulizers, or aerosols that allow for a singe dose of a fixed , pre-measured amount of medication.
A 75 hour state course covering the Basic Skills relating to Personal Care, Mental Health, Social Service, Basic Restorative Services, Resident’s Rights, and Communication and Interpersonal Skills, and much more is covered in the course. In order to receive a Certificate of Completion, it is necessary for the student to pass the required exams with a score of 70% or greater rich demonstrates proficiency in all skills taught in the course. The student must also complete 16 hours of mandatory hands-on clinical in along term care facility.
Invented in 1960, CPR is a simple but effective procedure for adults, children and infants that allow almost anyone to sustain life in the first critical minutes of cardiac arrest. CPR provides oxygenated blood to the brain and the heart long enough to keep vital organs alive until emergency assistance arrives. This course offers basic instruction and practice on how to properly administer CPR and First Aid. Two year Certification and re-certification is available for both CPR and First AId.
